Those scrappy Mixels just keep on keeping on. With every wave they manage to stay just fresh enough to hit the sweet spots. My son loves the goofy characters and I love the elements. The lastest wave is no exception, so lets start with the Weldos, a clan of construction themed Mixels. Continue reading Weldos (Mixels series 6)

The LEGO Architect
I’ve been quite pleased with the books that I’ve gotten from No Starch Press, so it didn’t take much of a leap to preorder their book on LEGO architecture back in April. I had hoped that it would arrive in early August for my birthday (sadly publication was delayed), but it was still sweet to have it waiting for me when I got home from BrickCon. Continue reading The LEGO Architect
70736 Attack of the Morrow Dragon
I’ve been bullish on this new wave of Ninjago sets. The combination of dark colors is excellent and the spectral bad guys are full of win. I picked up the Wu Dragon a while back, so it was only a matter of time until I added the other dragon from this range to my collection. Continue reading 70736 Attack of the Morrow Dragon
BrickCon 2015
This last weekend, I attended BrickCon 2015 in Seattle, Washington. Though it is not the largest of LEGO conventions, it is the longest running and draws builders (and the public) from all around the world. This was my second year there and I went with a completely different agenda than last time.
Rose City Comic Con 2015
This last weekend PortLUG had a booth at our local Rose City Comic Con. We’d never put on a display at a comic convention before so it was all new territory for us. What made it even more interesting is that we were invited to present a panel on building Lego. I threw my hat in that ring and signed up for the madness. Continue reading Rose City Comic Con 2015
40122 Trick or Treat
I’ve been very happy with this year’s seasonal LEGO sets. This run of 8×8 vignettes have been great sets full of interesting elements. At first glance, Halloween looks good too. Continue reading 40122 Trick or Treat
75108 Clone Commander Cody
I grew up on Star Wars. As an adult, my taste in science fiction has veered away, but my son and I have watched most of the Clone Wars series. When I first saw the images for these new Star Wars Buildable Figures, I was excited to see the potential. When they finally came out last week, I picked up a lowly Clone of my own. Continue reading 75108 Clone Commander Cody
75903 Haunted Lighthouse
I have to say that I was a surprised when LEGO acquired the Scooby-Doo license earlier this year. Once the set images broke, they seemed hit and miss. I figured that the minifigs would be the big selling point and resigned myself to picking up a copy of the Mystery Machine at some point. Then my lovely wife brought me home a copy of the Haunted Lighthouse. Continue reading 75903 Haunted Lighthouse
41099 Heartlake Skate Park
I like the Friends line a lot. They usually have broad color ranges and a generous assortment of elements that can’t be found in the other lines. I picked up the skate park because of all the fantastic orange and medium lavender elements and to see if it would make a candidate for drafting. Continue reading 41099 Heartlake Skate Park
70734 Master Wu Dragon
I don’t buy many Ninjago sets. I appreciate the models, but only the large sets seem to appeal to me and I’ve yet to buy any. This new range of ghost warriors has me sitting up and taking notice though. Striking color palettes and undead dragons galore!
