The second tribe in series 9 is a trio of ninja-themed oddballs. I’m a big fan of orange, so I’m already looking forward to digging into some newly recolored elements. Continue reading Nindjas (Mixels series 9)

Trashoz (Mixels series 9)
The final series of Mixels have hit the shelves and of course I bought them all up. I’ll miss these packets of brightly colored elements and their cheery little monsters. First up in series 9 are the Trashoz, a tribe of helpful trash-gobbling city workers. Continue reading Trashoz (Mixels series 9)
21307 Caterham Seven
The LEGO Ideas line has been hit and miss for me. I’m not very interested in most of the pop culture models that they’ve produced, preferring the sets based on original ideas or actual things. I had a lot of hopes for this latest set when I picked it up and it didn’t disappoint. Continue reading 21307 Caterham Seven
10252 Volkswagen Beetle
I don’t buy many of the big sets. My LEGO hobby is more about building than collecting, but sometimes the nostalgia bug bites me hard. I have happy memories of a baby blue beetle that my dad and I drove around in when I was a kid. We put a lot of miles on that car and drove it till it died. Seeing this latest Creator Expert set, I knew that I had to have one. Continue reading 10252 Volkswagen Beetle
31053 Treehouse Adventures
My childhood was full of dreams of forts and treehouses. Just from the box, I’m feeling those memories again. Such a great looking trio of models, I can’t wait to dig in and handle all those yummy elements and explore the building techniques. Continue reading 31053 Treehouse Adventures
Medix (Mixels series 8)
I’ve been looking forward to the Medix since pictures first surfaced. All those aqua and medium azure elements are totally enticing. One of the things I’ve always enjoyed about Mixels is the strong color themes and that they tend to be great parts packs for those colors. Continue reading Medix (Mixels series 8)
Pyrratz (Mixels series 8)
So many of us have a soft spot for pirates, it really shouldn’t be a surprise that they have finally shown up as a Mixel theme. Just from the packages, they look like a jolly bunch. Lets dig in and check them out! Continue reading Pyrratz (Mixels series 8)
MCFD (Mixels series 8)
Somehow, the Mixels just keep on delivering. After almost three years and dozens of tribes, they keep mixing it up. The firefighting Mixels of the MCFD bring elements of that evergreen LEGO City sub-theme to our favorite little monsters. Continue reading MCFD (Mixels series 8)
75825 Piggy Pirate Ship
Like a lot of AFOLs, I thought the idea of Angry Birds LEGO seemed ludicrous. It was hard to imagine sets that would have any redeeming value beyond the license. When they finally arrived, it was the pirate ship that caught my eye with clean cartoonish, lines and a reasonable price per piece.
70602 Jay’s Elemental Dragon
Ever since last year’s 70734 Master Wu Dragon set, I’ve been rather enamored with Ninjago’s dragons. In the last couple of years the dragon sets have been great and from the look of the box, this new dragon for Jay is no exception. Continue reading 70602 Jay’s Elemental Dragon
