It’s no secret that I’m kind of in love with this Elves theme. Though I’m not the target audience, these colorful fantasy sets are well designed and have tons of beautiful elements. I’m not alone on this one. It seems like most of the AFOLs that I know are talking about this theme and drooling over some element or another. Since this is the set that we will be drafting at the next PortLUG meeting, I figured that it was high time that I reviewed Naida’s Epic Adventure Ship.

40121 Painting Easter Eggs
I’m a little bit in love with the 8×8 vignettes that Lego is putting out for this year’s seasonal sets. I saw a picture of the Easter set in the back of the instructions for the Valentine’s Day set and I had to have it. Sadly every visit to the Lego Store came up empty. They were selling out as fast as they arrived. I finally decided to buy online from shop.lego.com, but they were sold out too. I must admit that I had given up until I walked into the store last week to find a whole shelf of them. I bought four without hesitation. Continue reading 40121 Painting Easter Eggs
Bricks Cascade 2015
This last weekend I attended Bricks Cascade 2015 here in Portland, Oregon. As my home town Lego convention, I was joined by most of my friends from PortLUG and builders from all up and down the left coast. I had a lot more to show this year and I was looking forward to it.
41074 Azari and the Magical Bakery
Since I’ve been back in the hobby, Lego hasn’t really produced any themes that have had me jumping up and down. Chima comes pretty close, with its beast mecha and science fantasy setting. As a result, my taste in sets often revolves around the elements and techniques that they contain. That said, the new Elves theme is amazing!
Micro Tank Battles
I have fond memories of boxed tank games from my childhood. I would pore through the rule books and study the counters. These days I’m always interested in the convergence between Lego and gaming. The folks over at Brickmania just released their own WWII tank game using brick built micro tanks, so I decided that I had to check it out.
Synas LED Light Box
Ikea plays a big part in my Lego hobby. I use a whole range of their products to store and organize my collection. The thing about Ikea is that they have such a large and constantly shifting product mix that there are often hidden gems in the catalog. The other day I stumbled across this lighted display case and decided to give it a try.
Glowkies (Mixels)
As the Mixels enter their second year, Lego seems to be struggling to find their footing design wise. This fourth wave of sets takes some interesting chances, which work to varying degrees. I have some nostalgia for glow-in-the-dark toys, so I snapped up the Glowkies as soon as I saw them all in the store.
Orbitons (Mixels)
This last weekend I took a trip up to Seattle. While I was there, I took in the local Lego stores to see what regional treasures there were to find. Sadly, the Pick-A-Brick walls were a bit disappointing. As a consolation, I did pick up one of the new Mixel tribes and assemble them on the train ride home.
40120 Valentine’s Day Dinner
This year’s seasonal sets are a nice departure from the cute animals sets that Lego produced last year. Each set is an 8×8 vignette with a pair of minifigures in an appropriate setting. Kicking off the line is this interestingly mature Valentine’s Day Dinner.
41097 Heartlake Hot Air Balloon
I’ve been a fan of the Friends line for a while now. Every season, Lego releases new and amazing sets in these pink boxes. The elements alone are worth the purchase (and oh so perfect for drafting). Needless to say, when I saw pictures of this set surface on the internet, I began to salivate.
